64 years ago 1961The Everly Brothers launch their own record label, Caliope, intending “to discover and develop new talent.” Their own recordings will continue to be issued exclusively by Warner Brothers.
56 years ago 1969The Beatles' single Get Back is awarded a gold record for sales over 1 million; within a week it hits #1 in the U.S.

49 years ago 1976Rolling Stone member Keith Richards crashes his Bentley into a highway divider in Newton Pagnell, a town 50 miles north of London. Police take various substances from his vehicle and Richards is charged in August with possession of cocaine and marijuana.
46 years ago 1979Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr perform with Eric Clapton, Denny Laine, and Mick Jagger at a wedding reception for Clapton and the former Mrs. Harrison, Patti Boyd. The two married the previous March.

19 years ago 2006Photos in today’s New York Post show Britney Spears leaving The Ritz-Carlton Hotel with son Sean Preston in one hand and a glass in the other. She stumbles, apparently when her long pants tangle in her open-toed shoes. The baby’s head is flung back, knocking off his orange hat. But a quick-reacting bodyguard helps out so Britney doesn’t fall. Her parenting skills are getting media scrutiny after she was photographed earlier this week driving with her son in a forward-facing car seat.
